Steve’s comment and link to a newspaper article about some Santa Barabara crows made me wonder how unusual the behavior is. I Googled it and found many comments and a few videos about crows at traffic intersections. Although none witnessed what I saw, it is obvious that crows world-wide comprehend cars and intersections.
Here is one video I found very interesting:

Wow!!! That’s amazing. They even wait for the traffic lights so they can safely retrieve the nuts. What clever birdies
Will,

Awesome video!
Glad I could “inspire” a second post on this topic.

I wonder if any crows have ever learned to push the button to stop the traffic on those pedestrian controlled lights?

They are probably smart enough to know that those buttons, at least around here, don’t work 1/2 the time!
Will I heard about this before, but never seen the video.
Thanks for the info. I think we underestimate lot of animals, how smart they are. We also must have remember that they are trying to survive where ever they live. Anna
PS Not sure if you seen this on my blog http://myonlyphoto.blogspot.com/2007/08/do-not-litter-guard.html
