I don’t know that I love it, but I always know spring is here for sure when I exit our front door early in the morning and immediately think of Robert Duvall’s classic line in the movie Apocalypse Now.
We live in an area with many orchards of pear, peach, and apple trees. In the spring, after the trees start blooming, we always get a few very cold mornings. Last week we had one day where it was 25F at 6am. To protect the blossoms, the growers use smudge pots that smell of burning diesel and huge fans that sound like helicopters. The fans can be heard from a mile or more away and we have many within that distance. The combined smell and din makes it seem like you are in a war zone. It does protect the delicate blossoms on the valuable fruit trees, but it sure makes for a surreal experiences just before sunrise on many spring mornings.

I also love the line that says: Charlie don’t surf. I prefer the smell of coffee in the morning.

Hi Tony – I am not really a big coffee drinker but I agree with you on that. Here is an interesting site that has “memorable quotes” from many movies including this one.
