This winter in Southern Oregon has seen very little rain and snow, but lots of cold, foggy days. Starting work with dense fog and temps from the mid 20’s to low 30’s has been a common occurrence. Many days the fog never lifted. This past week started the same way, plus I had a bad flu and a very sore back from a deep muscle spasm or something that occurred 8 days ago. The end of the week has seen a big change though, with the weather being sunny, in the 60’s, daffodils starting to bloom, my flu subsiding, and my back feeling a bit better. Hope springs eternal!
According to the garden journal I keep every year, I am a bit behind on my greenhouse work this spring. I have started some lettuce and spinach which as you can see from the photo has 
sprouted well. Another couple of weeks and I will move them out under a row cover and the outdoor vegetable gardening season will have begun! I need to get some early tomatoes and flowers started in the greenhouse so those will be ready to go out come mid April.
I think the happiest creature of all come the start of the greenhouse season is our cat Cosmos. Click the photo to see the big version and take in all her true beauty. 
She owns the greenhouse year-round, but really enjoys my company once I start working in there every spring.

I’m familiar with fog… and what prolonged fog does to young tomato plants.
We dug up the garden area last week, and will probably plant some stuff next week. Our cat, Pumpkin, likes to help with the gardening too… at least she likes to help “fertilize” the dirt, if you know what I mean.

Oh Will, already, our ground have not see a sun yet from being covered in snow, and more snow in these past few days. But then probably will not be doing much around my house anyway. I will watch yours grow for now. Anna

Hi Steve – I bet I know what “Pumpkin” looks like! Our two cats were from a litter of four that a stray delivered in our barn 9 years ago and which our then young children named. We kept Cosmos and Ginger and found homes for Oreo and Pumpkin.
Yeah Anna, I would have a hard time living that far north, I think. Just when you get some good gardening weather, you need to start worrying about an early frost!
