Geocaching Off Line

by Will on July 3, 2009

logo_home   A fire in a data center in Seattle has taken some big websites down. One of them is a favorite of mine, geocaching.com.  This is bad news coming at the start of a long weekend when thousands of people will be heading out to find some geocaches.  Fortunately I have several queries that run and download automatically, so I have fairly current data on my PC to work with.  I do bet many players in this high tech game of treasure hunting are pulling their hair out right now.  Hopefully the folks at Groundspeak will be able to pull something off to work around the problem.  Probably not how they wanted to spend their 4th weekend though.

Thank you for posting this. We wondered why the site and forums could not be found. This post is the only one that explained the reason.

I read this yesterday after trying unsuccessfully to go to the geocaching site, Thank You! It appears that as of a few hours ago things are fixed in the data center that had the fire. There is an announcement about it here: http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=225664
