Sunday Search of the (Year?) 10-11-2009

by Will on October 11, 2009

FARK This week I don’t have a specific search, just a post of amazement.  Amazement because of what can happen from the results of one search.  This site sits pretty evenly at 250 to 500 unique visits per day.  Occasionally it will spike up to a thousand or so, but generally it is pretty constant.  Back in July of 2008 my post titled “Water Will Be The Next Oil” had several days in a row with close to 2,000 views and one day with almost 3,000.  Well, a couple of weeks ago I assume that someone was searching for something about antibacterial soap and found one of my posts on the subject.  That person then submitted the post to FARK and all hell broke loose.  In the span of a few hours the post had 4,000 views.  That day it reached 8,500+.  The next day site visits were at about 3,000 and then they fell back to the more normal 500 range.

Me being me, and having no idea what FARK was thought “Wow!  I need to get more posts noticed there.”  Then I did some investigation and learned what FARK is really all about.  Oh well, I guess any kind of traffic is good traffic.  I think.  heh.

Hey, I’d love to get on Fark! But then, my site is a little sillier than yours.

I wrote a few posts about visiting a nude beach. I had a HUGE burst of traffic from angry nudists who didn’t like what I’d written. Eh. You take what you get.

Hi Will,
I had never heard of FARK before, and probably would have told my kids to “watch their mouths” if they had said that word. But I clicked on your link and read up on it, and saw the squirrel with the nuts. I guess I kind of get it now… at least I won’t be completely clueless if the word ever comes up in conversation. Thanks! ~ old-school Steve
