My Dad

1926 - 2012

My father died a few days ago after a tough illness. He is the first of my parents, aunts, or uncles to pass so the reality of the inevitable end of life has really hit home. Even the most fortunate of us are not getting any younger.

My condolences, Will.

Your father was born the same year as my mother. She’s still here, but virtually everyone else (over 20) are gone now.

Thanks – Did you really mean to type “over 20”? That is sad regardless of whether you meant everyone over 20 years of age or over 20 people.

Sorry, I meant over 20 aunts and uncles. Most lived to an average age or older.

My best thoughts, Will. I’ve reached the age where I will soon start losing my people as well. (Really, I’ve been fortunate that it’s been this long already.) I think a lot about it. As you said, it’s how it is, but we in the developed world often have the luxury of ignoring and forgetting about it for some time.

Your dad’s era was “interesting”, in the sense of the old curse: “May you live in interesting times.” I’d’ve been proud to be able to say I’d survived and prospered through all that.

Condolences on your loss Will.

My condolences on the passing of your father. Based on his age, he was blessed to live a long life. And based on what I know of his son, he left a legacy to be proud of. May he rest in peace. Steve

I was looking at WW entries and saw this photo of your dad. So sorry. Lost my mom several years ago and still surprised most mornings to wake up and realize she’s gone. Doesn’t matter how old we are, losing a parent is huge. My best to you and your family.

So sad to hear of the loss of your Father Will. Please accept my deepest sympathies. Both my parents are still alive but I dread when that day eventually comes for each of them.

Oh Will I am so sorry to hear about your Dad passing away. Unfortunately this is all part of life, some go sooner and some later. I am sure that he had a wonderful life, and remember memories last forever. Take care of yourself. Anna 🙂
