Thanks everyone. It is actually an Osprey. We see them all the time now at pretty much any mountain lake we visit. Often a single lake will have 2 or 3 nesting pairs. And yes they are strictly fish eaters I believe. I have been in a canoe quietly sitting in the middle of a lake and had an Osprey plunge down into the water just a few feet away with a thunderous splash, lifting off with a trout in it’s talons. They are also very vocal birds with a beautiful, distinct cry.
