This is a question I have been reading about since hearing it mentioned on a podcast I had downloaded. I have learned a lot and rather than write another post detailing what it is, here are a couple of good posts I found that provide the specifics:
Futurism Now
Here in the U.S. Eco-socialism will have a tough time gaining a large following mainly because of our fear of anything with even the suggestion of the “S” word in it. Admittedly some of the eco-socialist tenets are principles that will never be accepted in the U.S., but that should not prevent us from learning about the movement and adopting what is possible of the good ideas embraced by the eco-socialist community.

Glad to see this post being ignored. Ecosocialism is socialism, plain and simple. Watch out for the wolves in sheep’s clothing.
I love Americans’ fear of Socialim. It seems so strange from a European point of view. Lets join together comrades!

I always sucked in stuff like that. So I better not comment, because I usually get eaten away because my knowledge does not have any substance, lol. Will thanks for post. BTW hope your garden crops will be fruitful on the end. Gophers, ouch, that cannot be good. Anna

Hey Quiet – The fear is usually not even of real socialism. Most U.S. residents do not know what socialism is.
Hi Anna – Nobody is allowed to do any eating away at anyone else here! Your comments are insightful and knowledgeable so have no fear!
Recently I wrote a blog entry offering a leftist critique of the ideology of “Green” environmentalism, deep ecology, eco-feminism, and lifestyle politics in general (veganism, “dumpster diving,” “buying organic,” “locavorism,” etc.). I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the matter and any responses you might have to its criticisms.
Thanks for this post Will.
Don’t tell anyone else, will you, but I’m a lifetime socialist. And a Green. Guess that puts me squarely in the eco-socialist camp. I’m not sure that there is a coherent eco-socialist credo at the moment. But you’ve whetted my appetite to find out more!
Cheers.
